Create your own file from scratch...
For business cards, create a new file 91 mm x 61 mm at 300 pixels/inch. Colour mode should be CMYK. For postcards create a new file 151.5 x 108 mm.
Page sizes for other products can be found here.
After starting the Word Perfect application, it automatically opens a new blank document.
To adjust the size of the document select File > Page Setup. To enter the size of the card click the Add button, change the type to Bond and enter the size. For business cards set the size to 91 mm x 61 mm and for A6 postcards to 151.5 mm x 108 mm. These dimensions include the bleed of 3 mm (8.5pt) for and business cards and 1.5 mm (4.2pt) for postcards.
Trim and text area
For business cards create guides 3mm and 6mm from each edge, and for postcards create guides 1.5mm and 4.5mm from each edge.
Text or artwork you wish to preserve must be at least 3mm (8.5pt) inside of the final dimension of your design. To enter the margins first click Equal and Minimum and then enter your margins.
You are now ready to create your design within this template.
Please note, nothing should extend to the outer edge of the document other than items that extend right to the edge of your cards, like a background colour or all-over image for example. For more information on "bleed", please refer to our file preparation tutorial.
The first guide lines (3mm for business cards or 1.5mm for postcards) show where the cards will be cut. The inner guides (6mm for business cards and 4.5mm for postcards) show the 'safe' area for your design. You should try to keep your all your text and images within the inner guides to avoid the possibility of anything on your cards being 'clipped' when we cut them.
Very fine text, rules and keylines should be avoided.
Save the Artwork
To save the document select File > Publish To > PDF. In the following window select the Objects Tab. On the right hand side are the compression options, set the type to JPEG and the Quality factor to High quality (2). Finally go to the Advanced tab, set the Output all objects as to CMYK, ensure the option Optimise for Web is unchecked and press OK.
