You can download our pre-formatted start file
Or create your own file from scratch
For business cards, create a new file 91 mm x 61 mm. For postcards create a new file 151.5 x 108 mm.
Page sizes for other products can be found here.
For creating a new artwork in Publisher select the document type Blank Publication > Business Card.
To adjust the size of the document select File > Page Setup. For business cards set the size to 91mm x 61mm and for A6 postcards to 15.15cm x 10.8cm. These dimensions include the bleed of 3mm (8.5pt) for and business cards and 1.5mm (4.2pt) for postcards.

Trim and text area
For business cards create guides 3mm and 6mm from each edge, and for postcards create guides 1.5mm and 4.5mm from each edge.
For creating guides switch on rulers by selecting View > Rulers. Now you can just drag the guidelines out of the rulers to the required position. You can remove them in the same way by just dragging them back into the ruler.
It is recommended that you set guides for Safety Margins and Bleed. For business cards set the guides to 3mm, 6mm, 55mm and 58mm vertically and 3mm, 6mm, 85mm and 88mm horizontally. For postcards set the guides to 1.5mm, 4.5mm, 103.5mm and 106.5mm vertically and 1.5mm, 4.5mm, 147mm and 150mm horizontally.

You are now ready to create your design within this template.
Please note, nothing should extend to the outer edge of the document other than items that extend right to the edge of your cards, like a background colour or all-over image for example. For more information on "bleed", please refer to our file preparation tutorial.
The first guide line (3mm for business cards or 1.5mm for postcards) is where the cards will be cut. You should try to keep your all your text and images within the inner line (6mm for business cards and 4.5mm for postcards) to avoid the possibility of anything being too 'clipped'.
Very fine text, rules and keylines should be avoided.
If possible, your file should be created in CMYK colour format to ensure the most accurate colour reproduction. If available, this will be found in the 'more colours' part of your colour palette. We can accept RGB files, but there is a risk that some of the colours may not print exactly as they appear on your screen.
If you have an area of solid black within your document, 100% black (K) alone will not result in a solid, saturated black. Instead, please use Rich Black, as represented by C:100% / M:30% / Y:30% / K:100%.
