Help > Using Our Designer Interface

1. Can I have my type in silver or gold?Top

We don't use silver or gold inks, but if you use the mid grey from our colour palette, it looks quite like silver when it's printed. For a golden colour, our light brown, which is on the second row, 6th square in from the right, is a dull gold colour, or our yellow orange, which is on the top row, 6th square in from the right, is a bright orange/gold colour.

2. What if I don't want a Company Name or one of the other fields?Top

It's simple - simply leave the fields blank, you may have to delete our prompting text however the designer should prompt you to do this if you havent already.

3. Why don't my commas or bullet points show up?Top

If you type a comma or a bullet at the end of the first address line, our software will put in the rest in all the right places on all of your items - magic!

Our designers don't think that commas at the end of short address lines look right, though, so we have programmed our templates to take them out. If you really want to have them, just type two commas (,,) at the end of each line. Our software will remove the end one, leaving you with the one you want.

4. Letterheads and Compliment Slips - TIPS & TRICKSTop

Q. I need a footer along one line on my letterheads and compliment slips - please advise

A. We have added a feature to the Company Registration field.

If you require your details to sit on JUST ONE LINE, simply type NOWRAP immediately before your text. Our software recognises this as a command, and will reduce the size of your type until it fits the line. You can only have one line, though. No carriage returns are recognised after this command.

If you don't want to reduce the size of the type, but require the type to 'squeeze' to fit instead, type NOWRAP. - (which is NOWRAP with a full stop after it). Our software will reduce the horizontal scale of your type until it fits one line. Again, you can only have one line, though. No carriage returns are recognised after this command.

A CMYK JPEG of all of our colours can be downloaded from here - RIGHT CLICK THIS LINK

15. How do I use the designer page?Top

The stationery designer page has been made as easy to use as possible. If you are having difficulty don't hesitate to call us for some advice (01842 761546), also you could try following these simple steps...

1. The text that will appear on your design is on the left hand side, we have prefilled this with some example information. You can enter any information you want into these fields by clicking in them and typing what you want shown on your card. If you dont want some information shown, simply leave the field blank.

2. To change the font of the text click on the name of the current font which is a link, this will open a smaller pop-up window with example fonts. When you have a font you like, simply click on it to select it.

3. Our colour pallette will appear, simply click on a colour to select it.

4. Click on the preview button, then wait a short time while we generate a preview of your design.

5. If you are happy with your design click Save and Continue.

6. If you wish to add a back simply click on the right hand preview and select a back from the range. Continue to edit the back as you did with the front design.

7. Your basket remains active for 72 hours, so you can leave the website and come back and your work will still be there.

16. Impact style - specific questions (letterheads & complimentslips)Top

I don't want the first line of my address to be a repeat of my company name - what can I do?

Just type a '!' in front of the letters field.

Is it possible for you to allow for a space to be entered before the Name field so that if someone puts 2 words, i.e. first word in the logo and the second word outside they could enter a space so it doesn't appear as one long word in the top right on the letterheads?

Yes, just type '//' at the end of your letters field.

1. Type letters field plus // (so it would be ABC//)- puts a space between the letters and company name above the address

2. letters plus !/ (ABC!/) - takes the company name off the logo just leaving the letters

3. letters plus !/// (ABC!///) - takes the company name off the logo and puts it above the address (without the letters field)

4. letters with ! in front (!ABC) - takes the co name off the address

17. Postcard backs - tips and general infoTop

All postcard backs are available ranged left, right or centred. Use the 'Text Align' drop down menu on the top left hand corner of the designer page.

Change the colour of the background or border by clicking the 'Border Colour' square and choosing from the pop-up colour palette.

Each text field has a choice of typeface, colour and size. Just make your choices by clicking the little symbols under each text field.

All our layouts start from the top of the page and work downwards. If you want to move text around, insert line returns or spaces as required. For example, if you want a block of text at the bottom of the page, insert returns in front of your text. You can also increase the space between paragraphs in this way.

If you have a single line that is just too long and keeps wrapping round, type NOWRAP in front of your text, like this: 'NOWRAPYour text....'. Our software will recognise the command and compress the type to fit the line. You can't use any line returns with this command though, so it only works with single lines of type.

Once you are happy with your design, and have previewed your final changes, click 'done' and you will return to the main postcard page, where you will see your front and back previews displayed. From here, you can continue to edit or choose a quantity and add the item to your basket.

24. Christmas Cards - How do I add my logo?Top

1. Uploaded Logos

File format

Goodprint accepts JPG, TIFF, PDF and EPS files.

Outlined Fonts
When submitting EPS files to us, you must convert your fonts to outlines. Outlining eliminates the need to send fonts along your files, while maintaining a nice, crisp typeface.

Minimum Line Thickness
If you are using a line border, be sure to make the line at least .25 pt. thick to assure the it prints correctly.

File Sizes for Uploaded Logos
Resolution must be at least 300 dots per inch (DPI) at the final output size. Do not try to change from a low resolution to a higher one by increasing the DPI in your imaging program, you will need to create the file at the correct resolution initially. A low resolution image may look OK on your screen but will not print well.

There are two options for uploaded logos which you select from the drop down list under the browse box - the 'photo' option allows for a larger image than the 'logo' option.
a) LOGO option
Your logo must me a minimum of 250 pixels tall (or 60pt at 300 dpi).

It can be any width, up to the width of the card, and will scale in proportion to fit inside the dotted box shown left - see file width measurements below.
b) PHOTO option
Your photo must me a minimum of 458 pixels tall (or 110pt at 300 dpi).

It can be any width, up to the width of the card, and will scale in proportion to fit inside the dotted box shown left - see file width measurements below.

You can, of course, use the 'photo' option if you just want to insert a bigger logo, too.
File width measurements
The maximum logo or photo file widths are:
Square cards: 1900 pixels (458pt)
Horizontal cards: 2500 pixels (600pt)
Vertical cards: 1617 pixels (388pt)
Vertical Thin cards: 1025 pixels (246pt)
Images wider than this will scale to fit.

c) COMPLETE BACKGROUND option
Your image will scale in proportion to fit the card you choose - see file width measurements below.

If your file is not in the same proportion as the card, the file will scale up to the maximum it can, within the size allowed. It uses the bottom and centre of the card as its starting point.

In this case all the text will not move about to accommodate the file you have uploaded - you have to design your image around your text.
File width measurements for the 'COMPLETE BACKGROUND' option
The maximum FULL image file dimensions are (width x height):
Square cards: 1900 pixels (458pt) x 1900 pixels (458pt)
Horizontal cards: 2500 pixels (600pt) x 1617 pixels (388pt)
Vertical cards: 1617 pixels (388pt) x 2500 pixels (600pt)
Vertical Thin cards: 1025 pixels (246pt) x 2500 pixels (600pt)
Images larger than this will scale to fit.

After ordering you will recieve an email with instructions on how to send us your logo. We will include it in your design (as in this example - or according to your instructions) and send you a PDF proof for you to approve before printing.
